Adam Bird Kristina Bird professional commercial photographers in West Michigan

bird + bird studio is a place for creative effort, people of different specialties and interests to collaborate together. Female led, the studio is a collection of talented artists in a dedicated downtown Grand Rapids studio.

We consider our photography to be our life’s work, a collaborative effort where we use the best possible tools, practices, and effort we can. It brings us joy.

Adam, Kristina, and all of the other photographers, editors, assistants and support staff approach our work and our relationships with our clients with dignity and respect.

Kristina Bird professional commercial photographer in West Michigan

[ kristina bird ]

Even though she has always held a lifelong passion for photography, Kristina came to her photography profession gradually, starting her career in marketing as a tradeshow and conference planner. She grew within the marketing agency she worked at, eventually taking a management role. All of this helped Kristina develop a unique way of seeing photography, and how imagery works within all aspects of marketing.

As bird + bird studio grew under her husband, Kristina used the opportunity to explore her own art, shooting and assisting when and where she could, nurturing her passion.

Because her career began in a metrics based niche, Kristina approaches her photography with meticulous planning and attention to detail. Taking over leadership of the studio from Adam in 2020, Kristina enjoys the business challenges of the studio as much as she enjoys the artistic challenges.

When not working at the studio, Kristina spends her time dominating all comers at dominos, playing with her and Adam’s young son, and doing all of the embroidery. She might also admit to a love of procedural crime dramas on any of the streaming networks.

Adam Bird professional commercial photographer in West Michigan

[ adam bird ]

Adam started photography early, in the backyard of his home with an old camera borrowed from his Dad (without his knowledge) and working as a packer to pay for film. Starting in the industry as a photojournalist for local newspapers in high school, photography took him across the country and then to London, covering Western Europe for international wire agencies and studying photography before returning to the United States.

Working for a wide range of national publications ranging from The New York Times to Newsweek, he saw the coming change to the business model of media and transitioned from editorial to commercial work in 2010.

Adam is still highly engaged with the studio in a supporting leadership role, but also spends his time as a Director of Strategy at Deksia where he is also a partner. Outside of the studio he is often in, or working on, old Mercedes diesel cars. He also volunteers on several non-profit boards and committees in the community. When not doing cars and committees, he also spends time with friends and family (don’t we all?), and reading, lots of reading, on just about every subject.

[ autumn johnson ]

Starting at the studio as a college intern and working up to a lead shooter, Autumn has traveled across America and the Middle East, embodies the idea of having fun at work with an energy and attitude on shoots that are unmistakably Autumn. Autumn’s clients universally tell stories about Autumn’s easygoing energy and diligent approach. She brings this same energy and passion to helping businesses understand the critical role photography plays in business growth. As Autumn is fond of pointing out, if people can’t see it, are they really willing to buy it?

She is a passionate and energetic artist who is, according to her friends and family, is also an accomplished chef, cocktails builder and DIY builder.
